Description

A comforting Southern dessert featuring ripe bananas and a buttery, cake-like crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional, for serving)
  • Whipped cream (optional, for serving)
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Caramel drizzle (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced bananas, 1 cup sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together self-rising flour, milk, and remaining ½ cup sugar, and nutmeg if using.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared dish and spoon the banana mixture on top.
  6. Bake for 45–50 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  7. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
  8. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

For best results, use fully ripe bananas. Allow the cobbler to rest for optimal texture.
