- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, blend flour, salt, minced garlic, oregano, and basil.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a scraggly dough forms.
- Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Once risen, punch down the dough, fold in the Parmesan cheese, and shape into a loaf.
- Place the loaf in a greased pan and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a heartier version, you can substitute with whole wheat flour or use fresh herbs instead of dried. Make ahead tips: refrigerate the dough for up to 24 hours before use.
