Description

Delicious and aromatic Garlic and Herb Artisan Bread, perfect for any meal and special gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, blend flour, salt, minced garlic, oregano, and basil.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a scraggly dough forms.
  4. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Once risen, punch down the dough, fold in the Parmesan cheese, and shape into a loaf.
  8. Place the loaf in a greased pan and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a heartier version, you can substitute with whole wheat flour or use fresh herbs instead of dried. Make ahead tips: refrigerate the dough for up to 24 hours before use.
