Description

A rich and hearty Slow-Cooker Beef Bolognese that is easy to prepare and perfect for a comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, carrots, celery, and garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened.
  3. Transfer the beef and vegetable mixture to the slow cooker.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and red wine (if using) to the slow cooker.
  5. Stir to combine all ingredients.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  7. Serve over pasta and garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • This sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • It freezes well for up to 3 months.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor.
