Soft Baked Cheesy Pretzel Dogs are a delightful combination of soft pretzel dough wrapped around juicy hot dogs, topped with melted cheese for a delicious twist on a classic snack.

- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 8 hot dogs
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a long rope.
- Wrap each rope around a hot dog, ensuring the ends are sealed.
- Boil each wrapped hot dog in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel dog with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle with shredded cheese. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add garlic powder or onion powder to the dough.
- These pretzel dogs can be served with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
