Description

Soft Baked Cheesy Pretzel Dogs are a delightful combination of soft pretzel dough wrapped around juicy hot dogs, topped with melted cheese for a delicious twist on a classic snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  7. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a long rope.
  8. Wrap each rope around a hot dog, ensuring the ends are sealed.
  9. Boil each wrapped hot dog in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheet.
  10. Brush each pretzel dog with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle with shredded cheese. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add garlic powder or onion powder to the dough.
  • These pretzel dogs can be served with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
