Description

A comforting and festive dish of candied yams glazed with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 yams or sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice the yams into rounds.
  3. Melt the butter in a baking dish and mix in brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt.
  4. Add the yams to the baking dish and layer them evenly.
  5. Pour the buttery mixture over the yams.
  6. Add water to the bottom of the dish.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes until caramelized.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Assemble the dish the night before and refrigerate. Add extra baking time if cold.
