- 1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped
- 2 cups of shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 cup of sour cream
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup of breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
- 2 tablespoons of butter (optional, for greasing the dish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Blanch the cabbage: In a large pot, bring water to a roaring boil. Add the chopped cabbage and blanch for about 5 minutes until it softens. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare the creamy sauce: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sour cream, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Layer the ingredients: In a casserole dish, layer half of the blanched cabbage at the bottom. Follow this with half of the cheese, then half of the creamy sauce. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
- Add optional toppings: If using breadcrumbs, sprinkle them on top and dot with butter.
- Bake to perfection for 30-40 minutes until bubbling and golden brown.
- Cool and serve: Allow to cool briefly before digging in.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Prepare the casserole a day ahead and refrigerate. Bake it fresh for dinner with 10 extra minutes in the oven.
