Description

A delightful cake featuring layers of moist cake filled with fresh strawberries and topped with a glossy chocolate shell.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans evenly.
  2. Cream the softened butter and sugar together in a large bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then mix in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Gently smooth the top for even baking.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  7. Prepare the strawberry filling by whipping the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Carefully fold in the chopped strawberries.
  8. Once the cakes are cooled, place one layer onto a serving platter and spread the strawberry filling generously on top. Place the second layer over the filling.
  9. Melt the chocolate chips and butter together in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  10. Pour the melted chocolate over the top of the assembled cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  11. Let the chocolate shell set for a few minutes before slicing. Serve garnished with extra fresh berries, if desired.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Bake the cake layers a day in advance and store them wrapped tightly in plastic wrap. Assemble on the day of serving. Air fryer alternative: Bake in smaller pans at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes.
