A delightful cake featuring layers of moist cake filled with fresh strawberries and topped with a glossy chocolate shell.

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans evenly.
- Cream the softened butter and sugar together in a large bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then mix in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Gently smooth the top for even baking.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
- Prepare the strawberry filling by whipping the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Carefully fold in the chopped strawberries.
- Once the cakes are cooled, place one layer onto a serving platter and spread the strawberry filling generously on top. Place the second layer over the filling.
- Melt the chocolate chips and butter together in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the top of the assembled cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- Let the chocolate shell set for a few minutes before slicing. Serve garnished with extra fresh berries, if desired.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Bake the cake layers a day in advance and store them wrapped tightly in plastic wrap. Assemble on the day of serving. Air fryer alternative: Bake in smaller pans at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes.
