Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
- Whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream the unsalted butter along with granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition, and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Mix in the dry flour mixture and whole milk alternately, starting and ending with flour.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks for the custard and gradually add milk; cook over medium heat until thickened.
- Layer the cooled cakes with custard and freshly sliced strawberries, then chill before serving.
