- 1 loaf of challah or brioche bread, cubed
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- Butter for greasing
- Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your 9×13 inch baking dish generously with butter.
- Prepare the custard by whisking together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl.
- Layer the cubed bread evenly across the bottom of the baking dish, and arrange the sliced strawberries on top.
- Combine by pouring the egg mixture over the layered bread and strawberries, ensuring every piece of bread is soaked.
- Chill the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Bring the casserole to room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving with a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
Notes
Refrigerate overnight for easy morning preparation. Can also be made in an air fryer for a quicker bake.
